3 Days Masai Mara, Governors Camp

Day 1
Departure as per information for your transfer to the Airstrip Ukunda. The flight to the Masai Mara takes approx. 2 hours. On the way you fly past the Chyulu Hills; may see Mount Kiliman-jaro to your left; and fly over the Great Rift Valley before touching down in the Mara. On arrival your driver and a camp’s vehicle are waiting for you to take you to the nearby camp. After check-in you have time to relax and
enjoy the scenic beauty and magni- ficent landscape. Lunch is served in
the camp. At around 3.30 pm your driver will take you for your afternoon game drive.
The Mara is spectacularly rich in game and with the experience of your safari driver you are most likely to spot the BIG FIVE: elephant, lion, leopard, buffalo, rhino.

Dinner and overnight:
Main Governors Camp
Main Governors Camp – (38 tents) lies in the forest and along the banks of the Mara River its waters are home to crocodile and hippo. Initially the camp was exclusively reserved for Kenya’s Colonial Governors and Royalty. The camp is not fenced off and animals may take a leisurely walk through the site. All tents are spacious and in luxurious classic safari style. Some tents front the river; others offer a view across the wide plain.
Masai Mara Game Reserve (size 1’812 km²)
Is the northern extension of Tanzania’s famous Serengeti Plains and is situated in the south-west of Kenya. It offers breathtaking views. Most of “Out of Africa” was filmed here. The Masai Mara is the premier place for seeing wildlife with a big chance of spotting the ‘BIG FIVE’: Lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo, and rhino. The Mara and the Talek River meander through the park and are flanked by riverine woodland and seasonal marshes. Grassland plains, rolling hills, and wooded savannah, dominate the landscape of the Masai Mara. The MIGRATION – one of the wonders of the world. The reserves is most extraordinary between July and October when over 1,3 mil. wildebeest and zebra move together in a massive herd from the Serengeti across the Mara River into the lush Masai Mara in search of dry-season pastures. Mara hosts a large resident population of elephants, hippos, topis, buffalos, giraffes, gazelles and few of the rare rhinos. Predators are plenty, notably large pride of lions, cheetahs and leopards. Birding is excellent. The pastoral Maasai people live just outside the reserve and lead a semi-nomadic life.

Day 2
A tea or coffee is served before you set out at dawn for your early morning game
drive. In the cool, crisp air at the time of sunrise animals are still most active. Return back to the camp for a leisurely safari breakfast, followed by your mid-morning game drive. You return to the camp for lunch and siesta. At 15:30 h your driver will take you for your after-noon game drive, which lasts till sunset.
(Should you wish for a longer and far-reaching morning game drive with break-fast in the bush, kindly inform the camp reception the evening before. They will be pleased to arrange it for you.)
